The journal documents Vernon Orlando Bailey's fieldwork in Arizona and Minnesota, November 11, 1920 - August 21, 1921. The entries are dated and describe travel details (destinations, times of day, accommodations, campsites), interactions with local inhabitants and colleagues, specimen collecting (mammals and trap locations), daily activities, terrain, vegetation, and descriptions of communities visited. There are lists of plants and their locations (including Burntside and Basswood), extensive descriptions of wildlife in Burntside, Minnesota, and a list of plants (porcupine food) in cages for the area in the front of the notebook. He traveled through Albuquerque and Clovis, New Mexico. Locations include Santa Rita Mountains, Arizona; St. Paul, Minnesota; Ashland, Wisconsin; Basswood lake, (state unidentified).
